I returned to office today after participating in the international workshop on emerging zoonotic diseases in South Asia organized by the Wildlife Trust of New York with the support of the Asian Nature Conservation Foundation (ANCF), Bangalore, and held at the Sinclairs Resorts Dooars, Chalsa, West Bengal. The purpose of this mail is to put on record on behalf of the organizers of the workshop, the excellent all round cooperation that we received from Sinclairs, during our stay at Chalsa, November 3-7, 2009.

The workshop was considered a great success in terms of its technical outcome. All participants agreed that this was in no small measure due to the comfort and convenience that surrounded our stay at Chalsa. The staff at Sinclairs Resort Dooars led by Mr Avijit Ghosh was outstanding. This was conveyed to Mr Ghosh personally by Dr Peter Daszak, President of Wildlife Trust, New York, and by myself. Dr Daszak made a special reference to Mr Ghosh about the excellent food served by Sinclairs throughout our stay. The facilities at the resort in Chalsa compare favorably with those of equivalent facilties at the international level.

I would like to specially mention the efficient coordination that Sinclairs demonstrated between its offices at Bangalore, Kolkata and Chalsa. All the information on requirements in regard to conference arrangements passed on through you were flawlessly implemented by the Sinclairs team at Chalsa. Indeed I noticed that you are held in high esteem by your colleagues at Chalsa and so all commitments and assurances made to ANCF by you here in Bangalore were followed to the letter at Chalsa. A special word of thanks to Moloy Sarkar and his staff for their hard work in organizing transport at Bagdogra airport, for all arriving participants (coming by various flights over two days) under very trying circumstances. We were fortunate to have been assisted by a well trained and pleasant group of staff at Chalsa, led by the calm and thoroughly professional Avijit Ghosh. We appreciated the troubleshooting skills of the managers at Chalsa and their ability to handle last minute instructions and requests from such a large and diverse group.

Thank you, Jolly, for all your help. Prof Sukumar, Dr Daszak and I have planted saplings at Sinclairs Dooars Resort. I trust we will return someday to see how the trees are doing. After our experience at Chalsa ANCF will look forward to using Sinclairs facilities for its meetings in the future.

The property is extremely well maintained & offers a breath taking view.The Service and food was excellent adding to the overall experience.A great place for holding meetings too.Two meets here have been superb in getting people energized. Will come back some time with family too. Thank You.
